CodeNow Finishes Fall Training

Nine DC students, three girls and six boys, have completed our fall program. Each received 40+ hours of training in the programming language Ruby along with ten hours of homework. On the last weekend, they became the first group to build both an encryption engine and Twitter app.  It has been amazing to watch these students absorb the material and grow in such a short amount of time. Here’s what they  thought:

“Before CodeNow I wanted to do programming, but I didn’t really know much about it. After training I feel like I know more about programming and that I know enough to make decisions about how much I want to do this”. -Byron

“CodeNow was a very fun program. It was also a learning experience; it helped me gain knowledge on programming and spark my interest in it. It’s very helpful in understanding technology and creating programs. I also got to meet a lot of interesting people such as guest speakers and the people helping us”. -Rebecca

Our fall training would not have been possible without the support of: Jumpstart Lab, Living Social, Walmart and The Byrnes Family Foundation.

This is our fourth cohort of students and with every group we refine our approach.  To date, we have provided more than 2,500 hours of free training and 62 netbooks to students who have completed our training. We look forward to updating you on our status as we continue to gain momentum!
